AKC Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC) $75

Our trainer will administer the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. This is an evaluation only—not a training program or multi-week class.

Dogs do not need prior CGC certification to participate, but they should already be prepared to perform the required skills at the time of testing. The CGC evaluates your dog’s behavior, manners, and ability to handle real-world situations.

Passing the CGC test demonstrates that your dog is a well-mannered companion and can serve as a foundation for therapy work, advanced training, or dog sports. In some cases, certification may also qualify for homeowner’s insurance benefits—check with your provider for details.

There are 10 areas addressed by the AKC program:

  1. Accepting a friendly stranger.

  2. Sitting politely for petting.

  3. Calmly accepting grooming and handling.

  4. Sit and Down on command, Stay.

  5. Coming when called.

  6. Loose leash walking with stops, sits, and turns on your cue.

  7. Loose leash walking through a crowd of people and dogs.

  8. Politely meeting another dog and its owner during a walk - staying with you and not "visiting."

  9. Appropriate reaction to distractions.

  10. Supervised separation.
